What is Salvation?

The Problem

To understand the need for God's salvation, we must first understand the problem that we all face. The Bible teaches us that Adam and Eve committed the first sin of humanity by disobeying God's instructions in the Garden of Eden. Since that point everyone after that has been born into sin. All mankind has been separated from God because of our sins just like Adam and Eve.

Not only does sin separate us form God, but sin will also be punished by God. This is everyone's biggest problem. Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Sin is breaking the law of God and just like the civil law there must be a payment for the law that was broken. The payment that God demands for sins against Him is death. Romans 6:23a "for the wages of sin is death." We will face this punishment for our sin unless there would be someone who would pay the price for our sins.

The Solution

We deserve to suffer the punishment for our sins by spending an eternity in hell, but God sent His Son Jesus to this earth to take our punishment, for our sins. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. This salvation that God provides for us is not something that can be earned or taken by force. It is only through faith in Jesus Christ alone, by God's grace alone, that we are saved from God's punishment. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God

Repent and Believe

Jesus preached in The Gospel of Mark 1:15 “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Belief in Jesus Christ as our savior will bring about repentance and true repentance will come with faith in Jesus Christ.

To repent means to turn away from sin. It is more than just stopping what you are currently doing, but to also pursue holiness. Repentance is to confess your sin to God, turn away from that sin and to strive for what God wants.

For someone to have a true faith in Jesus means that there must be true repentance as well.
